Information about Nurses Week Promotional Items & Gifts:
Although first celebrated in October 1954 to mark the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's mission to Crimea, an official proclamation for National Nurses Week wasn't passed until twenty years later. That’s because Congress had discontinued its practice of joint resolutions for national weeks. However, in February 1974, President Nixon officially designated a week for National Nurses Appreciation Week. Over the course of the next several years, this event began to evolve. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation officially designating May 6 as National Recognition Day for Nurses. A short time later, the American Nurses Association expanded this event into a week-long celebration we now know as National Nurses Week.
